Rebels softball beats Panthers

WELLS — The United South Central Rebels softball team completed a season sweep of the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers with a 7-5 win Monday in Wells.
The win secured a second-place finish for the Rebels (9-4, 9-2 Gopher) in the Gopher Conference behind undefeated Blooming Prairie.
The Rebels and Panthers traded leads three times before the Panthers tied the game 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, the Rebels scored the game-winning run and held the Panthers scoreless in the top of the seventh.
Ali Ramsley earned the win for the Rebels after striking out five and walking one through seven innings. Jade Schultz earned the loss and struck out eight batters while scattering nine hits.
The Rebels play again at 5 p.m. Thursday at St. Clair, and the Panthers play again at 5 p.m. today against Byron in New Richland.
