St. John’s Auxiliary

St. John’s Auxiliary met at 2 p.m. April 18 in St. John’s Chapel. President Carol Rask welcomed everyone. Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Becky Nordland led the group in singing “Beneath the Cross of Jesus.”
Auxiliary Secretary Bonnie Schneider read the minutes of the March meeting. Treasurer Lorraine Schaper gave the treasurer’s report. Reports were approved.
New business was a list of changes to St. John’s Auxiliary Constitution. They will be voted on in May.
Volunteer Coordinator Caria Reichel reported that 711 volunteer hours were reported for March. The volunteer hours for the year are 8,826. Day Care had 42 hours, four You and Me Club and three Sing Alongs.
Diane Wichmann reported on activities for the residents. Meetings have been held to plan garden project. Upcoming events are May is National Nursing Home Month, Cinco de Mayo Day, the 37th annual Mother’s Day Tea on May 7, Halvorson Elementary School jump rope contest, piano recital, senior prom and storytelling with Marlene Behle. A Brock Besse concert will be held at First Lutheran on May 25.
In the absence of Caroline Sorenson, Rask read the names of residents celebrating April birthdays: Anna Sletten, Beverly Farr, Lovanda Hall, John Westeng, Clayton Worke, Donald Searles and Lawrence Schewe.
The churches that were thanked for serving Sunday coffee were West Freeborn Lutheran, Round Prairie Lutheran, Oakland Lutheran and United Methodist.
The program was provided by First Lutheran Church of Albert Lea. Donna Ludtke gave a reading entitled “Waking up to God” about resurrection, Bonnie Schneider gave two short poems on spring. Joan Holt played piano and the residents sang along to “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” “Go to Dark Githsemane” and “Were You There.”
Refreshments were provided by Second South and St. John’s Dietary Department.
The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
