Tigers golfers finish close 3rd in triangular

The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ golf team was edged Thursday by Owatonna and Mankato West in a Big Nine triangular at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
The Tigers shot 326 and lost by eight strokes to Owatonna and West, who tied with a 318.
Ninth-grader Brent Nafzger led the Tigers with a 79 followed closely by Brady Falk’s 80. Nafzger shot 38-41 while Falk shot 40 on the front and back nine.
Other Tigers scorers were Lucas Peterson (82), Adam Syverson (85), Nate Stadheim (88), and Nick Dulas (91).
The triangular’s medalist was West senior Nick Frink, who shot 74.
The Tigers junior varsity team shot 376 and also finished third behind Owatonna (345) and Mankato West (366).
The Tigers kicked off the Albert Lea Invitational today at 2 p.m. at Green Lea Golf Course. The tournament continues at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
