Aaron Klatt and Cole Sorenson hit back-t0-back home runs for the second time in three games Thursday as the Albert Lea Tigers baseball team completed the season sweep of Mankato West 6-4 in Mankato.
Klatt added a second home run in the fifth inning to back Sorenson, who scattered eight hits over seven innings on the mound, struck out five and walked three.
“Again it came down to pitching,” Tigers coach Joe Sczublewski said. “Sorenson got stronger as the game went on and he stranded 10 baserunners. He was tougher than nails.”
Conner Kortan hit a two-out single in the first inning and Klatt drove him in with a two-run home run. Sorenson followed with another home run.
In the third inning with one out, Cory Hansen singled and Kortan walked before Sorenson cleared the bases with a two-run double.
Leading 5-4 in the fifth, Klatt hit his second home run over the left field fence, and Sorenson followed with another double but was stranded at second base.
The win was the Tigers’ (9-2, 9-2 Big Nine) third straight and moved the team back into first place in the Big Nine Conference.
The Tigers play again at 1 p.m. Saturday against Waseca and return to Hayek Field on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Owatonna (5-3, 5-3).
