Chrissy Monson won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races Tuesday and the Albert Lea Tigers girls’ track and field team placed eighth of nine teams at the true team section meet at Mankato West High School.

Tigers coach Margo Wayne said the team’s distance runners struggled with the heat and that two weeks without competition due to meet postponements and cancellations had affected the team.

“It was great competition and we did see some better times and marks,” Wayne said. “But you can tell that that time off has put us behind where we’d like to be in the season.”

Wayne said Monson won her two races “convincingly” and beat the field by eight seconds in the 1,600 and 22 seconds in the 3,200.

“She ran two tremendous races,” Wayne said, of Monson.

Alissa Allison finished seventh in the 200-meter dash, and Sam Stanley finished eighth in the 400-meter run. Larissa Hacker placed eighth in the 800-meter hurdles, and Sydney Renaldt placed placed 10th in the long jump. Karli Kriewall pole vaulted a foot higher than her previous personal best at eight feet and finished in 10th place.

The Tigers compete again at 4:30 p.m. Thursday against Mankato West and Austin at Mankato West High School and host Rochester Mayo and John Marshall Tuesday at Albert Lea High School.
