GLENVILLE — Levi Garner hit a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning inning Monday as the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines baseball team beat the Houston Hurricanes 7-5 in Glenville.
Tyler Woodside scattered five hits over six innings for the Wolverines and allowed no earned runs.
The Wolverines built a 7-0 lead entering the sixth inning before fielding mistakes led to a Hurricanes rally. With one out an a Houston runner on first base, the Wolverines committed two errors on successive batters which led to five Hurricanes runs. Woodside threw 40 of his 106 pitches during that inning.
“You almost always expect (Woodside) to throw a no-hitter or something close to it,” Wolverines coach Louie Toulouse said. “But he got hit hard a couple of times.”
Toulouse said the Wolverines had timely hits but didn’t hit the ball well overall, and didn’t play as well as they could have.
The Wolverines play again Thursday at Alden-Conger.
