Boy hit by semi in Grand Meadow

An 8-year-old boy was airlifted by Mayo One to St. Marys Hospital Wednesday afternoon after he was side-swiped on his bike by a semitrailer.

The Minnesota State Patrol has identified the boy as Logan Stickrod.

The accident happened around 12:55 p.m. on State Highway 16 in Grand Meadow. The truck was headed west, as was the boy. The speed limit is 45 mph in the area.

“The driver did an amazing job maneuvering to avoid the child,” Mower County Sheriff’s Sgt. Martha Hauschildt said.

The semitrailer, a grain truck, was unloaded at the time, according to Hauschildt.

Stickrod’s condition was unavailable at the hospital.
