LAKE MILLS, Iowa — The Lake Mills Bulldogs baseball team sent 15 batters to the plate Thursday in a 12-0 rout of Northwood-Kensett in Lake Mills.
Bulldogs starting pitcher Josh Zabel allowed no hits while striking out 10 and walking none.
“We finally had a game where a pitcher challenged hitters,” Bulldogs coach Jason Blaser said. “It wasn’t against the strongest opposing batters but even in the past when we play lower-level guys we walk them. We finally attacked the strike zone.”
Most of the Bulldogs (8-3) regular starters batted once or twice before being lifted for junior varsity players. Ten of the game’s 15 batters notched hits.
“The younger guys played well, too,” Blaser said. “It was good to see some of the junior varsity guys who dress varsity but normally don’t get to play get some innings in.”
Zabel backed up his pitching before by going 2-for-2 with a double, triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Bulldogs play again tonight against Forest City in Lake Mills.
