Celebrate in Glenville

GLENVILLE — With the return of Eddie Cochran weekend comes the annual Glenville Days extravaganza.
This year’s festivities will feature an array of returning events, Miss Teen Minnesota and the addition of brand new games and a waffle breakfast.
Kicking off the Glenville Days celebration on Friday night will be one of those new games Minute to Win it, which was made popular by the NBC game show of the same title.
Other new events will be the Dad’s Belgian waffle breakfast, a fundraiser benefiting the National Youth Gathering and the bean bag toss tournament, which is to follow the breakfast.
Returning to the lineup of activities for the 2011 edition are the 5k river run beginning Saturday at 8 a.m. from the park, the parade, Little Miss and Mr. Glenville pageant, dodge ball tournament, the street dance on Friday and Saturday evenings and church in the park on Sunday.
Miss Teen Minnesota, Jenny Monson will be the honorary grand marshal for the parade and will be the master of ceremony for the king and queen pageant.
Monson is the daughter of Dale and Carolyn Monson. Carolyn is a graduate of Glenville High School.
Jenny Monson will also be discussing her new campaign for non-smoking.
The band selected to play during Saturday nights street dance this year will be the Time Machine. Beginning at 8:30 p.m. listeners will hear the tunes from the 70s and disco era as well as the 80s, country music and from big hair bands.

5 p.m.: Food vendors will open
7 p.m.: Medallion hunt begins
7 p.m.: “Minute to Win It” on Main Street stage
8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.: Grizzly Sound DJ
Saturday
8 a.m.: River run/walk starting at the park
10 a.m.: Parade
11 a.m.: King/Queen contest
11 a.m.: Medallion clues
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Barbecue pork lunch
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Kids games and activities in the park
1 to 4 p.m.: Bingo in the park
1 to 5 p.m.: Food concessions in the park
2 p.m.: WFLA Lodge 44 Brick Hall bike give-away at the tennis court
4 p.m.: Bovine bingo at the park
6:45 p.m.: Eddie Cochran car cruise around the park
8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.: Street dance featuring “Time Machine” at the Main Street stage
Sunday
8 to 11 a.m.: Dad’s Belgian waffles at First Lutheran
9 a.m.: Church service in the park
