AUSTIN — A Blooming Prairie man suffered severe facial bruises after the vehicle in which he was riding crashed with a steamroller and another vehicle on a closed road.

Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi said Derrick Lamotte, 22, was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin after the crash Thursday night. Lamotte received stitches in his nose, mouth and cheeks, Amazi said.

Amazi said a Jeep Wrangler ran into a steamroller on the Mower-Freeborn County road around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. Another vehicle then rear-ended the Jeep. Amazi was uncertain which vehicle Lamotte was riding in at the time of the crash.

The road is closed and had barricades up when the crash took place. Amazi said the road surface is 12 to 18 inches below the normal surface level after the barricades because of construction.

The names of the other people involved have not been released. The crash is under investigation.
