Here are highlights in history for June 3, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1985 — The Freeborn County Board delayed action to donate $1,000 for the Fourth of July fireworks display in Albert Lea. The board felt there was no legal basis for this appropriation.
1975 — The new community building at the corner of Main and Mill Streets in Lake Mills, Iowa, was officially named the Truman Helgeson Civic Center to honor the man who donated the structure to the city before he died.
1945 — Albert Lea was still the only undefeated team in the Southern Minnesota League after beating the Owatonna baseball team with a 7-0 score.
