Here are highlights in history for June 29, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — A Tribune article was based on the historical fact that what’s now the south part of Edgewater Park was a pigeon (squab) farm about a century ago.
1976 — The nation’s 200th birthday would be celebrated the following weekend in four area communities: Albert Lea, Bricelyn, Emmons and Northfield, Iowa, according to a Tribune article.
1946 — The city of Albert Lea refused to give up the baseball field on the west side to the State Highway Department for a new Highway 13 route.
