Here are highlights in history for June 30, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1987 — Soybeans were about a foot high and corn averaged three feet high, according to the state’s Agricultural Services.
1977 — The Rev. John Powell, pastor of Hayward and Trondjhem Lutheran Churches for seven years, retired. He and his wife, Thora, planned to live in Hayward.
1957 — For the fifth year, the Albert Lea Shriners would be sponsoring the Clyde Brothers Circus. Part of the proceeds would go to the Shriners’ Hospital in the Twin Cities.
