The United South Central Rebels girls’ golf team is headed back to the state tournament.
The Rebels won the Section 2A Tournament at North Links Golf Course in North Mankato Thursday behind sophomore Ali Wood’s 83.
“Ali certainly was the big difference,” Rebels coach Randy Halvorson said. “The winds were really strong but Ali kept the ball in play so well she was able to dominate all 18 holes.”
The Rebels finished seventh at the state tournament last season.
Wood finished as the tournament’s medalist, beating Chelsea Green, of Granada-Huntley-East Chain, by eight strokes. Clair Christian (102), Erin Hotzler (110) and Kyley Bullerman 113) rounded off the Rebels’ scorecard. Veronica Shindler (116) and Jenna Stevermer (119) were non-scorers for the Rebels.
Rebels senior Sam Gackstetter will also be joining the Rebels at state as an individual for the second consecutive season.
Gackstetter finished second in the boys’ tournament with an 80.
“Sam had a really solid round and is playing very consistent golf,” Halvorson said. “He put together another two good nines and led the team very well.”
The Rebels boys’ team finished second to Sleepy Eye for the second straight season with a 340.
The Class A state golf tournament is June 14-16 at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker.
