Albert Lea’s Aaron Klatt joined a distinguished list of players after being named to the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State Team.
Klatt joined only one other Big Nine Conference player on the 30-player list and was one of a few that didn’t play baseball in the metro area this spring. Rochester Century’s Mitch Brown was the other Big Nine player to appear on the team.
Klatt was the Tigers baseball team’s No. 1 pitcher this season and also played shortstop. He was named co-Team MVP, as well as All-Conference, and was given the Big Nine Conference Senior of the Year Award. Klatt was also selected to the Lion’s All-Star Series, an event reserved for the state’s top seniors.
Klatt was a dominant pitcher this season, finishing with an 8-1 record and 1.33 earned run average. He struck out 55 batters in 58 innings pitched and allowed 19 runs in nine starts.
Klatt was the leader of one of the state’s top pitching staffs. The Tigers finished with a 1.71 team ERA and struck out an average of 6 1/2 batters per seven innings.
At the plate, Klatt had a .269 batting average with four doubles and 12 RBIs. He also led the team with five home runs and scored a team-high 17 times.
Klatt, who was also named Academic All-State, will attend South Dakota State University next season on a baseball scholarship. He is the son of Dave and Shari Klatt.
