6 Gopher Conference players lead All-Area First Team
The 2011 softball Tribune All-Area First Team includes:
Ali Ramsley, senior, pitcher, United South Central
Ali Ramsley led the United South Central Rebels to a 14-6 record this season.
As the team’s starting pitcher, Ramsley had a 2.23 earned run average and struck out 123 batters over 122 2/3 innings, while only walking 28. She also held opponents to a .234 batting average.
At the plate, Ramsley held the team’s third-highest batting average at .426. She had a .526 on-base percentage and struck out only three times in 68 at bats. Ramsley also finished second on the team in extra-base hits with nine doubles and a triple, and recorded 19 RBIs.
Mar Schultz, senior, shortstop, United South Central
At shortstop, Mar Schultz led the Rebels in assists this season and had a .915 fielding percentage.
Schultz recorded the team’s second-highest batting average at .437 and had six RBIs.
Schultz also pitched five innings for the Rebels this season and finished with a 2.80 ERA.
Tayla Sunde, senior, catcher, United South Central
Tayla Sunde led the Rebels in batting this season with a .515 average. She had a .765 slugging percentage and hit the team’s only home run.
Sunde recorded team-highs in doubles (10) and RBIs (23), while only striking out three times in 68 at bats. She also hit a triple and scored 19 times with an on-base percentage of .662.
Jade Schultz, freshman, pitcher, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva
As the Panthers’ starting pitcher, Jade Schultz struck out 181 batters. She finished the season with a 10-9 record and a 2.70 ERA, and walked 71.
At the plate, Schultz led the Panthers in most offensive categories. She led the team in hits (25) and home runs (2) and tied for the team-high in doubles (4) and triples (1).
Schultz had a .431 batting average with a .544 on-base percentage, and scored 16 runs. She recorded 15 RBIs and walked seven times.
Schultz was named the Panthers’ Golden Bat and MVP, and was Gopher All-Conference.
Tara Simon, sophomore, catcher, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva
Tara Simon led the Panthers in hitting this season with a .469 batting average. She led the team with 16 RBIs and tied for the team-high in doubles (4) and triples (1).
Simon hit a home run and had a .653 slugging percentage, and scored 10 times. She also walked six times en route to a .561 on-base percentage.
Simon was named the Panthers’ Golden Bat and Gopher All-Conference.
Harlee Vokoun, junior, third base, New Richland-Hartland-Elledale-Geneva
Harlee Vokoun was the Panthers’ leadoff batter this season and finished with a .365 average.
Vokoun scored 10 runs, recorded 19 hits, including a double, and had six RBIs. The third baseman had a .424 on-base percentage and drew three walks, while being named Gopher All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Alayna Hall, senior, catcher, Glenville-Emmons
Wolverines catcher Alayna Hall was named to the Southeast All-Conference team this season after batting .411 with 12 RBIs.
Hall led the team with 56 at bats and struck out a team-low three times. Hall also led the team in hits (23), triples (3), home runs (3) and stolen bases (13).
Hall had a .679 slugging percentage, .441 on-base percentage and threw out 15 runners from behind the plate with a .846 fielding percentage.
Robyn Roe, senior, shortstop, Glenville-Emmons
Robyn Roe led the Wolverines in hitting this season with a .449 batting average. She had 22 hits, including four doubles, and had 12 RBIs.
Roe scored 19 times, had one home run and stole eight bases. She was also named the Southeast All-Conference team.
Nikki Schultz, junior third baseman, Alden-Conger
Nikki Schultz was the Knights’ lone Valley All-Conference selection and was named Team MVP.
Schultz had a .600 batting average, notching 36 hits in 60 at bats, and .645 conference batting average. She also had a .970 fielding percentage at third base, committing only two errors in 59 chances.
Rebels’ Stenzel leads softball All-Area 2nd Team
The 2011 softball Tribune All-Area Second Team includes:
Kayla Stenzel, senior, first baseman, United South Central
The Rebels’ hard-hitting first baseman, Kayla Stenzel, led the team in triples this season with three. She batted .404, good for fourth on the team, and drove in 14 runs.
Stenzel had the Rebels’ second-highest slugging percentage (.596) and drew eight walks en route to a .536 on-base percentage. She also scored 16 runs and hit three doubles.
Cassidy Latusek, junior, outfielder, United South Central
Cassidy Latusek played in every game this season for the Rebels and batted .367.
The outfielder walked a team-high 12 times and had a .521 on-base percentage. Latusek hit the team’s third-most doubles (7) and drove in 12 runs. She also scored 13 runs. Latusek had the team’s fourth-highest slugging percentage at .483.
Whitney Adams, senior, second baseman, United South Central
Whitney Adams was one of the Rebels’ top defensive players this season, recording a .925 fielding percentage at second base.
The senior batted .338, had a .500 on-base percentage and .400 slugging percentage. As the team’s leadoff hitter, Adams scored 24 runs and drew 11 walks. She also had 22 hits, including two doubles and a triple, and recorded nine RBIs.
Tori Raimann, junior, shortstop, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva
Tori Raimann was the leadoff batter for the Panthers this season and scored 19 runs with a .320 batting average.
The junior shortstop recorded 16 hits, including a double, and walked 14 times. Raimann notched four RBIs on the season and had a .435 on-base percentage and .340 slugging percentage.
Steph Root, sophomore, outfielder, New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva
Steph Root was the Panthers’ top defensive player this season and was voted the team’s Golden Glove winner.
The sophomore outfielder had 11 hits on the season, including four doubles, and three RBIs. Root scored six runs, had a .224 batting average, .345 on-base percentage and .306 slugging percentage.
Kailey Davis, senior, pitcher, Glenville-Emmons
Kailey Davis was the Wolverines starting pitcher this season, and threw all but one inning.
Davis finished with a 6.32 ERA and struck out 54 batters.
At the plate, Davis drew a team-high 15 walks, and scored 25 times. She had 12 hits for a .286 batting average, including three doubles and a home run. Davis also had nine stolen bases and 10 RBIs.
Davis was named to the Gopher All-Conference team.
Devin Cooper, senior, first baseman, Glenville-Emmons
Devin Cooper had the Wolverines’ second-highest fielding percentage this season (.961) and third-highest batting average (.333).
The senior recorded a team-high 13 RBIs and hit five doubles and a home run. Davis drew 15 walks en route to a .491 on-base percentage and scored 14 runs.
Ali Songstad, sophomore, pitcher, Alden-Conger
Ali Songstad was the starting pitcher for the Knights this season, finishing with 57 innings pitched.
Songstad struck out 39 batters and had a 5.22 ERA. She was named Valley All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Brooke Reyerson, freshman, utility, Alden-Conger
Brooke Reyerson was one of the Knights’ top batters this season, hitting .396 overall with a .346 batting average in conference play.
