ST. PAUL — A daylong Minnesota State Patrol traffic enforcement effort has ended with two road fatalities.
The State Patrol boosted its presence on state highways on Thursday — because June 30 has been the deadliest date on Minnesota roads over the past decade. The patrol dubbed the campaign “Maroon Day,” after its squad-car colors.
The State Patrol says the initiative resulted in 2,502 traffic stops and 22 DWI arrests. Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske says 92 crashes were reported on state roads Thursday, leaving two people dead and 21 others injured.
