Legion baseball tourney kicks off

Players, parents and fans will fill Hayek Field this weekend as Albert Lea hosts its first American Legion district baseball tournament for the first time in 20 years.
The eight-team, 10-game, District 1 double-elimination tournament begins today at 4 p.m. when the third-seeded Rochester Redhawks play No. 2 Owatonna Post 77. No. 5 Albert Lea Post 56 plays top-seeded Winona at 7 p.m. to conclude tonight’s games.
Four games in the loser’s bracket will be played Friday beginning at 10 a.m., and the semifinals and finals are on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Admission to games is $3 for students under 16 and $5 for adults. Children under six years old will be admitted free.
