NEW RICHLAND — With a carnival and street dance, fun walk/run and Idol contest, New Richland Farm & City Days this Friday through Sunday offers a little bit of everything for everybody.
At least that’s how event organizer Amy Ihrke describes it.
“There are so many different events tailored to each family and all ages, it draws people in and they find what they want to do,” Ihrke said.
Probably the biggest event each year is the Saturday night street dance on Broadway Avenue. This year’s dance will feature live music by cover band, Shag.
“They play a really huge variety from country to oldies to new stuff — a really good variety for everybody,” Ihrke said.
A favorite of recent years has become the “New Richland Idol” contest — a local version of “American Idol,” showcasing local talent. In fact, it’s become such a big deal that the contest winner from Friday’s event won’t be unveiled until the parade Sunday afternoon.
“People go to Idol and then come back for the parade, because only a couple of the judges know who the winner is,” Ihrke said.
In addition to some of the new entertainment, including Stix of Fury and the Splatter Sisters, a 5k route has been added to the 2-mile road race for the Panther Fun Run/Walk. A performance by local cheerleaders and elementary students who recently attended “Cheer Camp” is also new this year.
