Here are highlights in history for July 4, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1980 — Don & Ruby’s of Lake Mills, Iowa, advertised that “we’re back again” and Country Fever would be the weekend entertainers.
1970 — About 100 Albert Lea youngsters took part in the recreation department’s dress-up parade.
1950 — As a result of a grand jury investigation, it was recommended that five chimneys, four steeples and gingerbread decorations on the Freeborn County Courthouse be removed and replaced with a new roof.
