Here are highlights in history for July 5, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — Swift-Eckrich announced it would be closing its turkey processing plant in Wells. This would result in about 200 people losing their jobs.

1981 — Carol Wertjes was crowned as Miss Bricelyn. Runner-up honors were awarded to Rita Borgum and Diane Shirk.

1961 — Local 567 of the American Federation of Musicians in Albert Lea was celebrating its 50th anniversary. It was the third local to be formed in Minnesota.
