Here are highlights in history for July 8, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1984— ShopKo Stores of Green Bay, Wis., announced it had an agreement to purchase 14 acres of land near the corner of West Main Street and State Highway 13 for a new store site. (Note: This never became a reality.)
1974 — Otis Olson decided to conclude his public service activities. He had served six years on the Albert Lea City Council, six years on the School District 241 board and 16 years on the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners.
1964 — Freeborn County Fair Board Secretary Herman D. Jenson announced the “grandstand show” would be replaced with car races.
