Here are highlights in history for July 29, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1980 — Mike Krikava of Glenville wrote an article for the Tribune based on his trip to China with the University of Minnesota Concert Band Ensemble.

1970 — A 14-foot van carrying the Apollo 11 space ship that carried the first men to the moon, passed through Albert Lea on its way to St. Paul.

1950 — An ammonia leak in a tank at the Smith-Douglass plant resulted in 60 to 75 people being forced out of their homes in west Albert Lea.
