Post 56 goes 3-2 at Gopher Classic

The Albert Lea Post 56 American Legion baseball team finished pool play with a 3-2 record Sunday in the Gopher Classic in North St. Paul.
The Tigers beat Richfield 10-2 Friday behind starting pitcher Tyler Woodside. Woodside struck out two and walked one over five innings, and allowed four hits.
Connor Kortan led the Tigers with two of the team’s nine hits. He had a double and three RBIs. Cole Sorenson hit a three-run home run, and Klatt added a homer while Cody Haaland went 2-for-3.
In the its second game Friday, the Tigers edged West Fargo, N.D. on a walk-off single by Dylan See-Rockers.
Trailing 7-5 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, Klatt was hit by a pitch and stole second during Haaland’s at bat. Haaland struck out and Makael Lunning singled to score Klatt. J.T. Bellrichard walked and advanced a base, along with Lunning, on a wild pitch. Woodside then struck out before See-Rockers hit a game-winning, two-run singe on a full count to end the game.
In its first game Saturday, the Tigers only notched five hits in a 4-2 loss to Coon Rapids.
Klatt struck out four batters in a pitchers duel.
The Tigers then lost for the second time Saturday 5-4 to North St. Paul.
The Tigers committed four errors and lost a 4-2 lead in the final two innings. North St. Paul scored two runs in the sixth before walking off with a run in the seventh. Sorenson went 3-for-4, and Klatt went 2-for-3.
In it fifth and final game on Sunday, the Tigers beat Watertown, S.D., 8-5.
The Tigers used three pitchers in the win. Sorenson struck out seven batters over the first five innings, Woodside pitched a scoreless sixth and Klatt earned the save.
Kortan went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Klatt and Ethan Abben both went 2-for-3 with a double.
