Tigers slug way to sweep

The Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 baseball team scored 26 runs Saturday in a doubleheader sweep of Kasson on the road.
The Tigers won the first game 16-6 in six innings after giving up five runs early. Albert Lea bounced back, though, and scored 13 of the game’s final 14 runs.
Tyler Woodside earned the win for the Tigers, allowing seven hits while striking out five. Woodside was 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple. J.T. Bellrichard was also 2-for-3 with a triple.
In Game 2, the Tigers won 13-3 in five innings after scoring five runs in the third and seven in the fourth.
The Tigers slugged 14 hits over four innings and Makael Lunning hit a grand slam to center field. Lunning finished 2-for-2 with six RBIs.
Dylan See-Rockers was the winning pitcher after allowing five hits and striking out three.
Woodside backed up his first game’s performance with another strong offensive outing. The Glenville-Emmons graduate went 3-for-3. Connor Kortan was 2-for-4 for the Tigers, and Cole Sorenson was 2-for-4.
The Tigers are in action again Friday in the Gopher Classic Tournament which is held all around the Twin Cities metro area. The Gopher Classic in the nation’s largest Legion baseball tournament. The Tigers open the tournament with pool-play games against Richfield and West Fargo beginning at 2 p.m.
On July 21-24, the Tigers host the District 1 Tournament at Hayek Field. It will be the first time Albert Lea has hosted the tournament in over 20 years.
