Here are highlights in history for Aug. 12, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1985 — The yield of Minnesota’s corn crop would be five percent higher, according to the state’s Agricultural Statistics Service.

1975 — A proposed city ordinance would allow property owners to replant trees on boulevards to replace trees damaged by storms or disease. The one tree that would not be allowed was the elm because of disease problems.

1965 — It was estimated that Hawthorne would be the city’s largest elementary school with 670 students.
