Here are highlights in history for Aug. 22, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1987 — Some of the more unusual vehicles to stop in the Albert Lea area were the “Green Tortoise” tour buses on their 10-day trips from San Francisco, Calif., to Boston, Mass.

1977 — Tryouts were being held at the Southwest Little Theater for the Albert Lea Community Theater production of “Finian’s Rainbow.”

1947 — The Albert Lea High School Band took second place at the Minnesota State Fair. This band was one of 10 appearing at the fair.
