Here are highlights in history for Aug. 23, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1988 — Mark Sanderson and Steve Claybourne of Albert Lea participated in the 600-mile River Road Run III for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. This motorcycle ride was from St. Paul to Dubuque, Iowa, and back to St. Paul.
1968 — Albert Lea would be one of a dozen “micro-cities” with populations between 10,000 and 50,000 in Minnesota that was scheduled to be part of a special study project sponsored by the Ford Foundation and St. John’s University.
1948 — The American Gas baseball team won the city championship at Hayek Field.
