Here are highlights in history for Aug. 31, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1985 — The area version of the Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy would be held at the Oak Park Mall in Austin and telecast on KAAL-TV. Hosts would be John O’Rourke and Beth Bednar.
1975 — Rev. David P. Wetzler would be the new youth pastor at Calvary Baptist Church, replacing Greg Brendmoen who would be moving back to California.
1845 — Mary King, administrator of Naeve Hospital, resigned after 32 years of service as a nurse and hospital manager.
