The family of 10-year-old bike enthusiast Culley Larson will spearhead a bicycle giveaway party for children who have had their favorite form of transportation stolen.

The event is called 10 Bikes for 10 Kids and will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at the Albert Lea Skate Park by City Beach.

Culley’s mom, Vicki, is the primary organizer. She said 10 children will get a new bike.

“Come and watch Culley Larson make another kid’s day special,” she said.

Also, the Albert Lea Police Department will give away free bike locks, while supplies last.

The Larsons still are raising the money they need for the bikes, and Pizza Ranch at Northbridge Mall is helping. The 10 Bikes for 10 Kids drive receives 10 percent of all proceeds at Pizza Ranch for meals eaten between 5 and 8 p.m. Sept. 12.

Larson’s bike was stolen last month. A letter he wrote to the Albert Lea Tribune requesting the bike back catapulted him into the national spotlight, garnering attention. Companies and people offered to buy a bike for Culley, but the family asked them to donate a bike to the 10 Bikes for 10 Kids drive instead.
