For the sixth year running, Green Lea Golf Course is hosting the Shortstop Golf Tournament.
The 84th annual Shortstop begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday with a round of stroke play to determine flights. One-hundred and twenty-eight golfers will be divided into eight flights with the top 16 entering the Championship Flight.
Each flight will be bracketed and match play begins at 7 a.m. Sunday with two rounds, and the semifinals and championship matches begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
Seven past Shortstop champions are playing in the tournament this weekend including last year’s winner, a two-time champion, Phil Schmidt. Others playing are Andy Jacobson, Mike Nelson, Brent Miller, Jeff Stadheim, Chris Baas and Gene Peterson, of Houston, Texas, who is playing in his 32nd consecutive Shortstop.
Green Lea owner Jeff Elseth encourages golf fans to head to the course to watch the tournament.
Green Lea will be serving breakfast all weekend and will have concessions available on the patio and course. On Sunday night there will be a dinner with a disc jockey from 6 to 8 p.m. reserved for the tournament’s participants and their spouses.
There’s a less than 30 percent chance of rain on Saturday and Sunday, according to the National Weather Service, with high-60s to mid-70s. Monday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 69.
