Mavericks shut down Panthers’ surging offense

After scoring 129 points in three games this season, the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva football team’s offense went quiet Friday in a 14-0 loss to Martin County West in Sherburn.

The Mavericks (3-1, 2-1 Gopher Valley) returned the opening kickoff to the Panthers’ (2-2, 2-1) 35-yard line and scored on its first drive.

The Mavericks added its second touchdown on a 62-yard run with two minutes and 54 seconds remaining in the game.

“We are very banged up right now and our lack of depth is taking its toll,” Panthers coach Dan Stork said.

Jake Staloch led the Panthers with 94 rushing yards on 16 carries and 24 receiving yards.

The Panthers play again at 7 p.m. Friday against Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial (1-3, 1-2) in its homecoming game.
