Here are highlights in history for Sept. 1, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — The food page in this edition had four cheese recipes – Far East omelet. Italian frittata, cheese apple pumpkin pie and apple cheese bread pudding.
1976 — The Albert Lea Knights of Columbus would be holding a Hawaiian Luau on Sept. 4. This event would feature a barbecued whole hog stuffed with beef.
1946 — Lee Leninger would be the starting pitcher for the Albert Lea Packers in their first game against Zumbrota in the State Amateur Baseball Tournament.
