Here are highlights in history for Sept. 11, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1988 — A primary election on Sept. 13 would eliminate one of three contenders — Gary Olson, John Schulte and Stuart Olson — for Albert Lea’s First Ward seat on the city council in the Nov. 8 election. (Schulte and Stuart Olson won.)
1978 — Bill Thompson was installed as the new commander of Albert Lea’s Leo Carey Post 56 of the American Legion.
1968 — A total of 727 voters, or 8.1 percent of the city’s 8,960 registered voters, participated in the primary election.
