Here are highlights in history for Sept. 18, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1984 — The Illinois Central railroad line from Waterloo, Iowa, to Glenville and Albert Lea was in the process of being taken over by a new firm named the Cedar Valley Railroad.
1974 — As a result of the primary election, Freeborn County Sheriff Holland Laak and Norman Storvick would be on the November ballot for the sheriff’s position.
1964 — Dennis Darr, operator-manager of the Hartland Creamery Association, scored a perfect 100 for his butter at the Minnesota State Fair.
