Here are highlights in history for Sept. 23, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1989 — A German language class for 22 students at Alden-Conger High School was being conducted by satellite from Oklahoma State University.
1979 — Grand Old Opry star Roy Drusky would be performing at the Whispering Pines Supp’r Club, about two miles east of Ellendale on State Highway 30, on Sept. 30.
1959 — The Albert Lea City Council and School District 241 held a joint meeting. This was reportedly their first joint meeting, according to the Tribune.
