On Friday, Oct. 21, the Albert Lea Art Center will host its 2nd annual Celebrating the Arts & Artists event at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. The evening’s festivities will showcase the works of guest artist, Rory Mattson, of Albert Lea, and will also include an art auction of pieces from the art center’s permanent collection, which includes works from Lloyd Herfindahl, John Lacis, and Stu Botten. Additionally, art created by celebrity guest artists, Steve Schwartz, Nancy VanderWaerdt, Bob Syverson, Terry Leas and Dick Kogel will be auctioned. Mark Kness, patron guest artist, will auction off one of his wildlife paintings in support of the art center.
Throughout the evening, guests will be entertained with live music from Norrine Jensen, and the members of the Southern Minnesota, Northern Iowa Harp Ensemble. Masters of ceremonies for the evening are David Larson and Glen Parsons. Also during the event, the winner of the Wedding Story Contest, first posted at June’s English Tea event, will be awarded a $100 gift certificate to the Art on Broadway Art Shop.
Celebrating the arts and artists serves as the kick-off for the annual art center membership drive. Last year’s event raised more than $3,500 for the art center, with more than 100 people in attendance.
The Celebrating the Arts & Artists event begins at 5 p.m. and is open to the public. Appetizers and a cash bar will be available. A $5 donation at the door is suggested.
