NORTHWOOD, Iowa — During next week’s home sporting events, the Northwood-Kensett Vikings will host a “Pink Out.”
Parents, volunteers and spectators will be able to purchase pink T-shirts from the Northwood-Kensett cheerleading squad.
The shirts will be used as a fundraiser for the 2012 Relay For Life of Worth County, a national fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society. The Relay for Life is the signature event of the American Cancer Society held each year.
Northwood-Kensett has two home matchups for fans to wear their pink shirts to next week.
First up on the Vikings’ slate is a home volleyball match on Monday against Newman Catholic out of Mason City.
Bess Eilertson’s squad (10-10) has turned their season around just in time for the playoffs and sit at a .500 record. They have been the victors in seven out of their previous nine contests and look to continue their roll.
Newman Catholic has also turned their season around as of late. After beginning the year a mere 2-11, they have worked to a .500 in their last eight contests.
The Vikings football team will host the second “Pink Out” event of the week on Friday, Oct. 14.
That night Northwood-Kensett (2-4) plays host to Southeast Webster. Southeast Webster has yet to find a victory this season.
The Vikings ground game has been the sticking point for their offense this season. Northwood-Kensett running backs have carried the ball 249 times for 1,143 yards and 10 touchdowns.
They have struggled in the passing attack, completing only 12 of their 27 attempts for three scores. They have also been intercepted twice.
All money raised from the event goes toward cancer research, raising awareness of cancer prevention and cancer treatment.
Worth County’s 2012 event is scheduled for June 2, 2012, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Worth County Fairgrounds.
