Here are highlights in history for Oct. 11, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1992 — An inaccurate news report in a Twin Cities newspaper said Amtrak was planning to have passenger train service from Minneapolis to Kansas City, Mo., with stops in Northfield, Owatonna and Albert Lea. (Note: This never became a reality.)
1982 — Operation Rain Gauge was being conducted by 19 members of Albert Lea’s Future Farmers of America at various locations around the county.
1942 — Pauline Collins was crowned Homecoming Queen at Albert Lea High School.
