Here are highlights in history for Oct. 12, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1983 — About 50 poplar trees on the south side of the Lake Mills, Iowa, athletic field would be cut down. This action was authorized by the school board.
1973 — Eldon Senske was the new president of the Albert Lea Kiwanis Club. The vice president was Daniel Foley and Carroll Bergerson was elected treasurer.
1963 — Laurel Haney, Cheryl Dockwell, Teresa Olsen, Ann Chesterman and Lois Bye were candidates for the Albert Lea Homecoming Queen title.
