Here are highlights in history for Oct. 18, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1988 — The Mantovani Orchestra gave an “impeccable concert” at the “Cap” Emmons Auditorium, according to local music critic Richard Olsen. This orchestra’s concert was part of the local Civic Music series.

1978 — Voters in Frost with a majority of 61 percent approved a merger of their school district with the Blue Earth system.

1958 — School District 241 Superintendent Lorne Ward said Albert Lea High School students could wear jeans to class as long as they had permission notes from parents.
