Here are highlights in history for Oct. 28, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1991 — A fire the previous day destroyed a good portion of the front of the former Land O’Lakes building at 721 W. Clark St. Firefighters from the city and township departments spent eight hours fighting this blaze.

1981 — Peoples Savings and Loan Association and Owatonna Savings and Loan Association announced plans to merge. The result would be offices in 14 Southern Minnesota communities.
