The sirens sounded in Albert Lea on Wednesday night as part of Operation EDITH.

EDITH stands for Exit Drill In The Home. This is Fire Prevention Week. The sirens were a reminder to practice fire drills and getting out of the home in case of a fire or other emergency. People are encouraged to check their smoke alarms, too.
