St. John’s Lutheran Home Auxiliary

St. John’s Lutheran Home Auxiliary met Sept. 19 at 2 p.m. in St. John’s Chapel.

President Carol Rask welcomed everyone. Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Becky Nordland on piano led the group in singing “Children of the Heavenly Father” and “Faith of our Fathers.”

Auxiliary Secretary Bonnie Schneider read the minutes of the May meeting. Treasurer Lorraine Schaper gave the treasurer’s report. Reports were approved.

Rask announced the no meeting in June, July and August 2011 will not be repeated in future years. Meetings will be held throughout the summer.

Volunteer Coordinator Caria Reichel reported 4,041 volunteer hours for April to August. Day Care had 157 hours, 14 You & Me Clubs and 11 Sing Alongs.

Diane Wichmann, activities director, gave highlights of the summer programs: Father’s Day BBQ, July 4th parade, family planter night, 5th annual Garden & Antique Tractor Show, Senior Day at the county fair (45 residents attended, 162 fair entries with the scarecrows taking grand champion at the Freebom County Fair and third place at the state fair), Pelican Breeze with 46 residents in attendance. For October the activities will include Albert Lea volleyball game, program on China, a Titanic slide-show, the Amazing Hoola-Hoopers, Epland farm trip and haunted house tunnel.

Vice President Caroline Sorenson read the names of residents celebrating September birthdays: Clarissa Harvey, Helen Nelson, Esther Quam, Dorothy Jahns, Mildred Knudtson, Warren Rosenau, Leona Taylor, Ruth Callahan, Joseph Probst, Harriet Butenhoff and Barbara Bolinger.

The churches that were thanked for serving Sunday coffee were for June: Salem Lutheran, East Freeborn and Concordia Pickeral Lake; for July: Trinity Lutheran, Community Lutheran in Geneva, Concordia Pickeral Lake and Zion Lutheran; for August: Church of Christ Christian, Ascension, Our Savior’s and Zion Lutheran; for September: Community Lutheran in Geneva and United Methodist.

The program was provided by Christ Episcopal with Gail Thurnau on piano. She entertained the group with eight autumn songs.

Refreshments were provided by 2nd South and St. John’s Dietary Department.

The meeting was closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
