It’s Homecoming Week for Albert Lea Area Schools, and there are plenty of activities during the week. Tonight there’s girls’ tennis, boys’ soccer, girls’ swimming and volleyball games to watch. For all students and staff in the district admission is free just for Homecoming Week. Albert Lea faces Mankato East for the Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Friday at Hammer Field.
Albert Lea High School lets students out at 1 p.m. Friday to take part in Homecoming activities at Hammer Field throughout the afternoon. There will also be dances for ALHS students following the football game Friday evening. Students will be selling patriotic magnets for $1, with proceeds going to making care packages for deployed military family members of ALHS students.
Friday
• Albert Lea High School’s football team plays Mankato East for Homecoming Week at 7 p.m. at Hammer Field. Admission is free for any students or staff in the district.
• The Humane Society of Freeborn County will hold a gourmet dinner fundraiser at 7 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church. There will be entertainment and a silent auction. Donations will go to the Humane Society for animal sheltering operating costs. Reservations are required, and people can call 507-402-0613 to reserve a spot.
• The Austin Area Solos and Singles will hold a dance starting at 7:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Albert Lea.
Saturday
• KCPI – The Breeze will host a 5k walk/run starting at 8 a.m. at the Northbridge Mall. The event is sponsored by Mrs. Gerry’s and Sanderson Auto. All proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen cancer fund. Register at Skyline Plaza.
• A Young Eagles Program for ages 8 to 17 will be held at the Albert Lea Municipal Airport from 8 a.m. to noon. Free flights will be given.
• An “It’s a Breeze” women’s expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Northbridge Mall. There will be seminars, entertainment, food demonstrations, exhibitors, prizes and a fashion show.
• The Albert Lea Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. and goes until noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.
• The 3rd annual fall formal “Are the Stars Out Tonight” will start at 6 p.m. at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club. Tickets are $35 per person.
• A CD release concert by Albert Lea native Jim Anthony will be held at the banquet room at Trail’s Travel Center starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.
Sunday
• Huntley Gardens & Orchard will host its annual Harvest Festival open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at 10516 720th Ave. in Emmons. There will be cider-making demonstrations and sampling, light refreshments, activities for all ages and fall produce for sale.
• Zion Lutheran Church will celebrate Oktoberfest with a German family-style dinner and entertainment from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Menu includes brats, meatballs, sauerkraut, hot German potato salad, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetables, bread, German chocolate cake and beverages. Cost is $10 for adults, $3 for children age 3 to 10 and free for children under age 3.
• The Freeborn Congregational Church will host its annual soup and pie supper from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $4 for children age 10 and under. Proceeds will go toward the roof project. Soups will include oyster stew, chili, chicken noodle, vegetable beef and wild rice.
