Weekend Planner: Spooky tunes to be sung during ‘A Touch of Broadway’

Local actors will present spooky songs from musicals like “Wicked,” “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and “Phantom of the Opera,” among others. The show will be presented at the Lighthouse Event Center at 621 Marshall St. in Albert Lea.
The audience is encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes while enjoying the show. The show opens at 7:30 p.m. tonight and continues at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets are $15 in advance at Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee or Stadheim Jewelers in Albert Lea and at Coffee House on Main in Austin. Tickets are $20 at the door.
Friday
• United Way holds its “Keep the Fires Burning” event from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Northbridge Mall parking lot. There will be a costume contest for kids and adults with a free beverage from Caribou Coffee as the prize. Also, anyone who donates more than $10 will get a free s’more.
• “A Touch of Broadway” will feature musical highlights from various shows starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Event Center in Albert Lea. Tickets are $20 at the door.
Saturday
• The Albert Lea Farmers Market starts at 9 a.m. and goes until noon in the North Broadway Avenue parking lot.
• Power 96 will hold a Halloween carnival from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Country Inn & Suites.
• Arc will hold a children’s pumpkin party for children 13 years and younger who have intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Arc Activity Room at 407 E. William St. in Albert Lea.

Sunday
• The Kiester Volunteer Firefighter’s breakfast is planned from 7 a.m. to noon at the Kee Town & Country Center in Kiester. Menu includes pancakes, French toast, scrambled eggs, sausage links and beverage. Donations accepted.
• The fourth annual Pipe Screams Concert will be held at 3:36 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. The audience is welcome to wear costumes, and there will be many performers. Enjoy a teddy bear parade and free popcorn and apple cider. An offering will be taken for the Organ Voicing Project.
