AUSTIN — After two years of winless seasons, Austin head football coach Matt Schmit will not return next season.
Austin High school activities director Lisa Quednow-Bickler said the team is looking for a new coach for next season and she couldn’t comment on the reason for Schmit’s departure.
The district is hoping to have the job posted by Nov. 21.
“It’s an open position and those that feel they are qualified may apply if they meet the requirements,” she said.
Schmit took over the Packers two years ago after spending eight years as an assistant under Tim Hermann.
Austin went 0-18 overall under Schmit and the team currently has a 19-game losing skid.
