After slow start, boys’ hockey is taking off

The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team has notched four consecutive wins after being roughed up by Northfield in its season opener 7-2.
The Tigers are 3-0 in the Big Nine Conference and in a four-way tie atop the league with Rochester Century, John Marshall and Mayo and Mankato West.
Albert Lea’s latest win came on Thursday when the team scored three unanswered third-period goals en route to a 4-1 win at Owatonna. Adam Herbst, Brady Falk, Larry Olson and Eli Malimanek each scored goals for the Tigers.
Nate Stadheim and Levi Hacker lead the team in points with seven each, and goalie Griffin Wangen has a 90.9 save percentage.
The Tigers play next at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday against Mankato East at Roy Nystrom Arena.
