Details of Manchester crash released

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that driving fast in wintry weather is why a Honda hit a Pontiac on Thursday morning in Manchester.

The sergeant in charge of the investigation said the driver of a Honda CR-V southbound on Minnesota Highway 13 was going too fast for the snowy road conditions. It was the first morning this season with snow accumulation on the pavement. The driver was a 56-year-old woman from Mankato.

The Honda slid sideways and crossed into the path of a northbound Pontiac Bonneville driven by a 31-year-old man from Twin Lakes. The Pontiac struck the Honda on the driver’s side door.

The crash happened at 6:30 a.m. Thursday about 1,000 feet south of the Bend in the Road bar.

Names were not available, as the State Patrol is finishing its report. Both people were transported to a hospital by ambulance. Their injuries, the sergeant said, were not life-threatening. There were no passengers. The drivers were wearing seat belts and no alcohol was detected.

The Minnesota State Patrol is urging drivers to slow down and drive safely when wintry weather conditions present themselves.
