A Chevy Blazer reportedly struck a man and injured him early Saturday morning during a fight near Front Street.
According to police, the man, who has not been identified, was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. He received injuries to one of his legs and cuts to his face.
Police have arrested Coniah Emerson Horton, 27, of Albert Lea, as the suspect. He was arrested for second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, driving after revocation, driving while intoxicated and driving an uninsured vehicle.
Horton was reportedly dating the victim’s sister.
Reports stated the incident took place about 20 feet north of the driveway of 618 N. Fourth Ave. after a party at a residence on nearby Front Street. Horton, however, was arrested near the intersection of Main Street and Fenton Avenue after fleeing the scene.
Police received statements from two witnesses who gave different accounts of what happened.
The first witness stated the fight started after the victim called his sister — Horton’s girlfriend — a name. Horton reportedly backed up fast and then revved up the engine and drove into the victim. The victim was reportedly lifted up off of his feet and onto the hood of the Chevy Blazer for a short time, according to police.
The second witness stated the fight started out of an attempt by the victim to keep Horton — who had allegedly been drinking — from driving. The witness stated the victim jumped in front of the Blazer. The vehicle had just been purchased and reportedly also did not have insurance.
